Roughly 7,100 suites across the Venetian and Palazzo towers, an indoor Grand Canal with singing gondoliers and a casino floor of about 120,000 sq ft. The Venetian is Las Vegas at its most theatrical - and, since 2022, under new ownership.
Overview
The Venetian opened on 4 May 1999 on the site of the demolished Sands Hotel, built by Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands as a homage to Venice: a 315-ft campanile, a Rialto Bridge, St Mark’s Square under a painted sky and a canal with gondolas - all indoors and air-conditioned. The Venezia tower (2003) and the adjoining Palazzo brought the complex to about 7,100 suites, making it one of the largest hotels in the world.
In February 2022 Las Vegas Sands sold the property: VICI Properties bought the real estate and funds managed by Apollo Global Management took over operations. A programme of suite renovations and new venues such as Voltaire followed. Both the Venetian and the Palazzo hold Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star ratings.
Location
3355 South Las Vegas Boulevard, on the north-central Strip opposite the former Mirage site and beside Wynn Las Vegas. Sphere, the 17,500-seat venue opened in 2023, is directly behind the resort. The Las Vegas Convention Center is a short walk or one monorail stop away; the airport is about 15 minutes by taxi.

Every room is a suite: the standard Luxury Suite has a sunken living area, two flat screens and a marble bathroom, with roughly 60 m² as the entry point. Higher categories in the Venezia and Palazzo towers add butler service, private lounges and pool access. Room counts as published: about 4,049 in the Venetian towers and 3,066 in the Palazzo.

The casino: The Venetian Casino
The Venetian casino covers about 120,000 sq ft with more than 2,000 slot machines plus table games and a poker room, and is operated by the resort’s Apollo-owned operating company under a Nevada licence. The official casino page states that all guests must be 21 or older to be on the casino floor, that dress is resort casual (shirts and shoes required) and that government-issued photo ID may be requested at any time. There are designated smoking and non-smoking areas.

Casino history
The Sands, opened in 1952 and famous as the home of the Rat Pack, was demolished in 1996 to make way for The Venetian. Adelson’s resort opened in May 1999 with 3,036 suites and an unusually large convention footprint, reflecting his background in trade shows. The Venezia tower expanded it in 2003 and The Palazzo followed in 2007 as a sister property sharing the casino complex.
The Venetian became the model for Las Vegas Sands’ Asian resorts - The Venetian Macao (2007) and Marina Bay Sands (2010) reuse its formula. In 2022 the Las Vegas property was sold to VICI and Apollo, ending Sands’ presence in its home city.

Age restrictions
Nevada’s legal gambling age is 21. The Venetian applies it strictly: anyone under 21 must not be on the casino floor, even in transit, and ID is checked on request. Shows and restaurants have their own age policies published on the official site.
