How we review, and why there are no stars

Our reviews are structured fact files with an editorial summary. We assess eight criteria, quote only sourced facts, and publish ratings only when a named public source exists. This page sets out exactly how.

Eight things every review covers

The same eight headings, in the same order, for every hotel - so a review of a 41-room lakeside hotel in Austria is directly comparable with a 7,000-suite resort in Nevada.

From long list to published review

We start with a long list of hotels that have a casino on the premises or under the same operator on the same square. Each candidate must have an official website, a working reservations channel and a casino whose operator and status we can confirm in 2026. Several candidates were dropped at this stage - including one famous hotel whose in-house casino closed in 2020.

For each remaining hotel we build a fact file from the operator’s site, the regulator, Wikipedia and reputable travel press, note the date, and write the review in our own words. Photographs are Creative Commons images from Wikimedia Commons with author and licence credited.

  • Existence and booking channel verified
  • Casino status confirmed for the current year
  • Every figure dated and sourced
  • Re-checked at least twice a year

Why we publish no scores

A number without a method is decoration. Here is what we quote instead.

We do not award stars, points or percentages. A score implies an anonymous stay, a comparable sample and a published weighting - none of which an editorial fact file can honestly claim. Instead we quote third-party ratings with a named source where they exist: Forbes Travel Guide star ratings (Bellagio, The Venetian, Marina Bay Sands, Hôtel de Paris) and large-sample traveller scores from Tripadvisor or momondo (Hilton Tallinn Park, Radisson Blu Scandinavia). Where no such source exists, the review says “not quoted”.

Our own contribution is the editor’s summary at the end of each review - clearly labelled opinion, explaining who the hotel suits and what to watch out for. The ordering of our lists is likewise editorial preference, shown as a position number, never as a score.

We accept no payment from hotels or casinos for inclusion or ranking, and booking links carry no commission. If that changes, this page will say so first.

Corrections. Hotels change: restaurants close, casinos relocate, operators rebrand. If you find an error, write to hello@centrumstrategii.com with a source and we will correct the review and note the change.
